CONNECTING SCIENCE SOCIETY COLLABORATIONS FOR THE SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS
According to topic of Education for Sustainable Development there is a lack of awareness and financial resources to include ESD in the higher education system. In a document for rectors at the Summer School in Luneburg, Germany, 2011, on the implementation of sustainability in research and teaching in East-European higher education institutions, the participants from Albania stated: “Our educational policy makers and the university governance teams are not sufficiently aware of latest developments at UN and EU level, build on existing documents, such as OECD strategies, and also take our national strategies of sustainable development and education for SD into consideration”.
Addressing the Western Balkan regional priority 'knowledge-triangle education-research-innovation', this project aims to establish a regional science-society network for sustainability innovations in Albania and Kosovo. The wider objectives are to strengthen the connection and collaboration of higher education institutions, research and practice as well as to promote mutual learning and innovative sustainability issues and methods through structured workshops to support capacity building as well as systemic and holistic thinking. Therefore the specific objectives are to identify regional stakeholders in the field of higher education, research and practice for sustainable development, to establish a science-society network for sustainability innovations, to develop innovative teaching materials and methodologies for higher education institutions, and last but not least to develop and run structured workshops and trainings for science-society collaborations.
To achieve these objectives, the consortium members were selected due to their methodological competencies, capacities and know-how. Furthermore, they provide a comprehensive representation of the project's stakeholders. Therefore, the consortium consists of 4 Albanian, 3 Kosovarian and 4 EU Universities. Furthermore, 2 civil society organizations, one of each partner country, and 2 Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE) on ESD are involved. The direct target groups will be higher education institutions: lecturers, researchers and students, research institutions and regional stakeholders like enterprises, NGOs and regional development agencies. Furthermore policy makers will benefit indirectly.
“TEACHING, MOTIVATING, DISSEMINATING AND RESEARCH ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: 2030 AGENDA”
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is already part of the Albanian Government program. At his speech at the Assembly of the United Nations in September 2015, the Albanian Prime Minister, emphasized that this document will be an integral part of the government policies in the coming years. In addition, he focused basically to the 16th goal of the Agenda that consists on the rule of law, promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, on access to justice for all the levels of all the institution levels. Nevertheless, in Albania we can notice a lack of awareness about the sustainable development and its challenges. Indeed it was admitted also by the Deputy Prime Minister at the press conference organized on the “2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development”.
Taking in consideration the above facts, this project will try to increase the awareness of the society on the sustainable development firstly, and on the 2030Agenda secondly. The main objectives of the projects will be as follows:
Objective 1: The increase of the awareness of the new generation towards the sustainable development.
Objective 2: Research and analysis of the gap of information on the sustainable development in the society.
Objective 3: Research and analysis of expert’s thoughts on the 16th goal of the 2030 Agenda on the Sustainable development, through experts’ interviews.
Objective 4: Organization of two workshops with stakeholders (like representatives from the Court of Justice, Municipality, Region of Durrës, layers, lecturers and experts of law, public administration and political sciences) in order to discuss on the 16th goal of the 2030 Agenda on the Sustainable Development.
Objective 5: Policy paper on the sustainable development and on the implementation of 16th goal of the Agenda 2030 of the Sustainable Development.
